Peter says:
Many years ago ,whilst in Northern Canada working within the Inuit Community, I came across a group of women scrapping stretched seal hides. The tool that they were using was called the Ulu. These precious tools had been handed down through many generations with their own history of hundreds of hours of scrapping hides. Some were made from walrus bone and had developed their own beautiful patina having been worn down by the hand of their users .
With all the ideas and visuals of scrimshaw carving and the stark contrast of the surrounding landscape I developed the Cutting Edge piece with its polished top clasped by a hand shaped base .
